Hello Good Doggos,
Thanks to your feedback and support, Onyx Path has now fine-tuned the Realms of Pugmire PDF, implemented your feedback where appropriate, fixed all of the page numbers, and the finalized PDF is now available in your DriveThruRPG digital library.
You can access your DTRPG Digital Library at any time and download the latest version of the book at your convenience.
Later today, Onyx Path will release the PDF for purchase on DriveThruRPG. When that happens, they'll also make a print-on-demand version of that PDF availble for purchase. As one of your rewards, you may have access to a discount link that will allow you to add the PDF to your cart at a slightly reduced price, should you wish to buy a hardcopy of the PDF.
DISCOUNTED PRINT-ON-DEMAND ORDER LINKS FOR BACKERS
If you pledged to the Practical Pointer digital reward tier or have either of the hardcover versions as one of the items in your pledge list, one of your rewards is a discounted option to order a print-on-demand version of Realms of Pugmire. Now that the print files have been finalized, Onyx Path can finalize the PDF at DriveThruRPG and make a PoD version of the PDF available for purchase.
Again, just to ensure it's understood -
THIS IS NOT YOUR KICKSTARTER HARDCOVER REWARD!
This is a discount link for a one-off printed version of the PDF that will soon be released for purchase on DriveThruRPG.com (but YOU can order it at a discounted cost if you wish!) With this step completed and the files finalized, Onyx Path can now begin setting up the regular and deluxe editions at the printer and will ship to you next year.
DIFFERENCES IN PoD FORMATS
So, for those backers who pledged at the PDF reward tier, or those backers who will later be receiving the hardcover book but might be looking for a second copy for the table, there are two different versions of Print-On-Demand options available.
Standard Color uses a thick 70# white paper which has better page opacity. (that's "70 pound" for reference, but does not mean each page weighs 70 lbs!). Standard Heavyweight Color uses inkjet technology. (These are not the same inkjet printers you have at home - these are often as big or bigger than a car!) This option offers lower cost but the colors won't be as sharp or bright as a Premium Color book.
Premium Color uses the same 70# paper, but uses "Digital Color Print Engine Technology," which sounds super fancy and certainly costs a lot more, but I'll admit to not knowing the exact difference. This option offers superior color quality but is more expensive to produce, and has gotten even more expensive over the past year.
(Remember to login to DriveThruRPG prior to clicking or pasting the discount link in your BackerKit digital rewards locker, if you that was part of your rewards list! That link is your coupon and must be usedfor your PoD order.)
Please note: This discounted Print-on-Demand ordering link will be valid atthis costfor the next six months - it expires on July1, 2025 - so please, if you choose to order a Print-on-Demand copy, use the provided link prior to summer 2025to ensure the best pricing. (That is to say, I can't confirm the price will stay at this same spot past July, so best to order before then.)
REWARD DISTRIBUTION
If this reward is on your rewards list, your link to claim them will be sent out by our BackerKit pledge manager over the day. Since we are using our partners at DriveThruRPG as the host for this, you will need to set up a DriveThru account if you don't have one already. If you encounter any problems with downloading your rewards, please contact DTRPG's customer service to resolve the matter, they've always been top-rated for customer service. http://www.drivethrurpg.com/contact_us.php
If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://realms-of-pugmire.backerkit.com
As noted, Onyx Path is working on nailing down the specs and timing for the printing of the regular and deluxe hardcover editions that were Kickstarter rewards for this project. The Stretch Goal supplements are also well in progress and I'm hoping we'll start to see them filling in more dots in 2025!

Hello Good Doggos,
I've got another adventure preview for you today, a sneak peek at what's brewing in the Stretch Goal factory!
Realms of Pugmire Adventure Preview 2
Here’s another preview from the stretch goal adventure, The Haunted Village of Mortimer!
The front door to the general store is barely closed. The lock went missing long ago. The door opens with a slight tug and, when the heroes step inside, they smell something rotting. An Intellect (Know Nature) check at difficulty 10 informs the heroes this is not the smell of flesh, but rather rotting fruits and vegetables.
Once inside, the heroes hear the now familiar clicking sound of bone bugs. After a few seconds, a discombobulated mess of bones stumbles into view, though this isn’t an average bone bug.
As the animated skeleton begins approaching, a large dog’s skull — which is attached to the creature’s pelvis — begins shouting to the heroes. “By all means, stop me from approaching, but keep in mind that I’m more than just a skeleton. In fact, I’m kind of stuck to this one! Help me out, would you?”
Throughout the battle with this altered bone bug, the skull keeps chatting. The dogs may engage with the speaking skull. He gives combat advice they can follow, which grants a boon to their attack, or they can ignore him. These commands focus on keeping the dogs from destroying the skull while still stopping the bone bug’s attack. If a character rolls a botch in combat, they hit the skull instead, dealing damage to it.
Angel’s Bone Bug
This strange amalgamation happened when a standard bone bug became entwined with Angel Collier’s haunted skull. The energy that animates Angel somehow empowered the bone bug, making it a greater threat than usual.
Tactics: Like most bone bugs, this variant is a brutal combatant that attacks wildly with little thought for tactics or planning.
Tricks: Darkvision; resistant to edged and stabbing damage; automatically fails tests; weak against holy damage
Reconfigure: At the end of its turn, if this bone bug is still active it can reconfigure its form with any bone fragments lying around, creating 1d4 − 1 new bone bugs.

October 2024 Update

Hello Good Doggos,
We're a week away from Halloween, so I've got a preview to share with you today from one of our upcoming ghostly rewards...
Realms of Pugmire Adventure Preview 1
Here’s a preview of one of the upcoming stretch goal adventures, The Haunted Village of Mortimer.
Somewhere between the city of Pugmire and the Fearful Forest lies the village of Mortimer. Mortimer was once a thriving town but one day everyone mysteriously died, and the village is now rumored to be hiding secrets, including a potent artifact of Man. The village has been abandoned for some time. Rumors insist that the Unseen have claimed the village, and that these creatures stand guard over long-lost artifacts. Brave dogs may approach the village in search of treasures and glory, or to free the abandoned town from the tainted grasp of the Unseen.
Adventurers embarking on this tale as a follow up to Rumble in Riverwall may have heard of a great artifact of Man from a patron at a tavern, a shopkeeper, or another informative dog on their way out of Riverwall. Alternatively, those who’ve played through “The Missing Caravan,” the story included in the Realms of Pugmire Jumpstart, may have heard rumors of this village from a merchant they encountered during that adventure. The adventure begins with the dogs arriving at the village.
Synopsis
Although the player characters may investigate the buildings in a different order, this is the most direct route through the village, thus making this the route a group is most likely to take.
Scene 1: The Park: On Mortimer’s outskirts, the dogs notice some movement in an otherwise-abandoned park and investigate.
Scene 2: The Tavern: The heroes enter Mortimer for the first time. The tavern contains two floors of space for the group to search. Here, they must defend themselves against undead.
Scene 3: Checking Out the General Store: The adventurers search the general store where they find more undead and a new acquaintance, or perhaps a friend.
Scene 4: Stopping Off at the Pawn Shop: The heroes search the pawn shop for evidence of the rumored artifact of Man. Instead, they find another undead foe!
Scene 5: A Trip to the Groomer: The adventurers search the groomer’s shop for evidence of their quarry. The heroes instead encounter undead they must either kill or escape from!
Scene 6: The Jail: The heroes continue their search in the jail where they find a tormented spirit who hides secrets and the artifact they seek.
REWARDS STILL PENDING

Curseborne is a game about being unapologetic monsters in a world where being monstrous is the least of your worries. In Curseborne, you play as Accursed, descendants of monstrous lineages lurking in a modern world that closely resembles our own. You rebel against the ancient feuds between these entwined families, as well as against the web of curses that bind you, while fending off inhuman antagonists seeking to claim — or reclaim — your power.
The world of Curseborne is full of intrigue, magic, and things that go bump in the night. It’s just like our world, except the reason that things don’t go your way or that bad things happen is that the people are literally living in a world of curses. Some people are cursed more than others, and these are our Accursed characters. They have a particularly large curse that hangs over their heads and makes them more prone to bad things happening to them and around them. The nature of this curse also makes them magical in nature. They have a sense of the thing holding them back, and they can manipulate it in ways that normal people cannot.
This book is comprised of two main parts. The first part is the setting of Curseborne, as well as more about the Accursed themselves through the view of the characters. It shows how they see themselves, their world, and their place in that world. Lineages represent five broad categories of Accursed: The Dead (ghosts and spirits), The Hungry (vampires), The Outcasts (angels and demons), The Primal (shapeshifters and werewolves), and The Sorcerers (magicians).
The second part of the book are the instructions on how to use this book to play a game. You’ll find the chapters on how to play the game using the Storypath Ultra system, how to create a character, all the cool powers those characters have, and information on how to run a game of Curseborne.
With 7 days left in the campaign, we've passed 500% of our initial funding target and unlocked several Stretch Goals - including three new supplements that will be added as bonus rewards for backers of this project!
DRAFT MANUSCRIPT: Over the course of the campaign, backers will receive access to chapters from the current draft manuscript of Curseborne. By the end of the campaign, backers will be able to read the entire book as it stands now, before any pledges are processed or payments collected. No secret curses with this campaign - you'll know exactly what you're supporting with your pledge. Read the manuscript and make sure the project is right for you.
September 2024 Update

Hello Good Doggos,
No reward news for you this month, but I do have a couple of cool Realms of Pugmire treats to share!
First up, this wasn't a reward for our campaign, but is in fact one of the first new books for this edition of Realms of Pugmire! And if you're as old as I am, the cover and a the interior inspiration may feel pretty familiar for those who've been rolling dice for the past 50 years...
THREATS & CURS
“Lots of dogs think that exploring the world is just one big adventure. But I’ll tell you what it’s really all about: dealing with an endless parade of threats and curs.”
- Simon Mutt, Royal Pioneer (retired)
As pioneers explore new regions of the world, delve deeper into the Underneath, journey into the Fearful Forest, or venture out onto the waves of the Acid Sea, a whole new world of enemies lies in wait. Some, like the spider-goats used for sustenance and companionship by seafaring pirates, are friendly. Others, such as leviathans, are horrifying creatures of legend striking terror into the hearts of all but the bravest pioneer. The world is large, mysterious, and filled with threats both familiar and unknown.
Threats and Curs is an expansion for Realms of Pugmire offering dozens of enemies to be introduced as antagonists, rivals, or allies in your campaigns. The Realms of Pugmire core rulebook is needed to use this book.
Inside you will find:
Over 150 new enemies to include in your campaign
Expanded rules and new tags to construct exciting new encounters
A selection of ready-made encounters featuring enemies introduced in this book
Now available in advance PDF from DriveThruRPG: Threats & Curs for Realms of Pugmire!
Realms of Pugmire Jumpstart Preview 2
Last month I noted that the team had moved pretty far along on our jumpstart reward. In fact, here’s an early scene from the Realms of Pugmire Jumpstart!
Scene 1: The Missing Merchants
The town of Wag sits on the edge of the Fearful Forest, one of the last stops before the trees grow thick and sunlight struggles to reach the road. Pugmire merchants stop here before heading on toward the Monarchies of Mau on the other side, and cats who’ve arrived from the nearby monarchy of Korat rest here before traveling on toward Pugmire or Waterdog Port.
You arrive in Wag about midday. You’ve been told Luisa Samoyed, the caravan’s leader, usually stays at the Wayfarer Inn the night before a trip to the monarchies. The Wayfarer is a three-story building on the edge of town closest to the forest. It’s a welcoming establishment, with a cozy pub on its first floor.
The mouth-watering smell of roasting meat fills your noses as you enter, but despite the homey atmosphere, the customers within seem nervous and furtive. A dog and a cat having a whispered conversation go quiet as soon as you step through the door. A white-furred dog with his leg in a splint grimaces and takes a drink. The barkeep counts heads as you walk in and lines up some tankards, but even her hello is cautious. “You must be the pioneers,” she says. “We’ve been expecting you.”
It’s early in the day, so the pub is relatively quiet. The barkeep, a dog with long reddish-gold fur, is Brandy Mutt. She’s also the inn’s owner. She invites the pioneers to have a seat and offers to answers their questions. She tells them that Luisa and her caravan have a regular route between Wag and Korat on the other side of the Fearful Forest. She’s never more than a day or two late, and Luisa is cautious; she and her group always stick to the road that’s been cut through the forest.
“The Fearful Forest is dangerous,” Brandy says. “Everyone knows it’s full of bandits and monsters. You wouldn’t catch me going through there, and I’ve lived in Wag my whole life.” She nods toward the dog and cat pair at a nearby table. “They make the crossing all the time. They know you always have to be on the lookout for trouble. Do you see the pyrenees with the broken leg? He was one of Luisa’s guards — the only one who came out of the forest. He might be able to tell you more.”
A Presence (Sense Motive) check, difficulty 10, tells the characters that even as relieved to see them as she is, Brandy’s holding something back. A Presence (Persuade) check, difficulty 12, gets her to confide in a low voice, “A few others have gone missing the last few months, but Luisa’s caravan is the first time a whole group has disappeared off the road.”
Talking with Colin Pyrenees
The dog with the splint is Colin Pyrenees. He’s a gruff, older dog with shaggy white fur, wearing a scuffed leather vest and a dour expression. As with Brandy, he’s willing to talk to the pioneers, though his answers are short. A Presence (Sense Motive) check, difficulty 12, tells the characters his leg is really hurting him, but he’s trying to tough it out. If the characters offer their help — perhaps by Sister Picassa casting her Cure Wound spell — he’s thankful and relaxes a bit.
Common questions the characters might ask him include:
What happened to the caravan? “We were on our way to Wag from Korat when a group of bandits burst out of the forest. They overwhelmed us quickly. If they’d only wanted to rob us, Luisa would have gladly handed over our goods, but they carried people away, too.”
How did you get away? “I didn’t, exactly. I chased one of them off the road and fell into a pit trap. I managed to pull myself up out of it, but my leg was broken. I hid when they came back for me, so I could get to Wag and try to get help.”
Have you gone looking for them since? “Of course! But we couldn’t find them, and don’t have the forces to venture too far off the road. That’s where you pioneers come in.”
If the group asks him to accompany them into the forest, Colin declines. He needs to stay here and continue healing up. A Presence (Persuade) check, difficulty 15 (difficulty 10 if they’ve offered him healing) can convince him to take them to the place where he remembers being ambushed, but he’ll return to Wag afterwards. If they’ve healed him, his leg is on the mend but not completely back to full strength.
Other Customers
The last two customers are a pair of merchants: Poppy Spaniel, who has thick black fur and a graying muzzle, and Navin von Rex, a cat with cream-colored fur and silver hoops in his pierced ears. They travel through the forest together several times a year. They’re nervous, and admit they’ve been discussing whether to put off their next trip back to the monarchies.
Here are their answers to some common questions:
What’s it like in the forest?
Poppy: “The travelers’ road is usually pretty safe, as long as you keep your guard up. I’ve heard about monsters in the woods. In some places, even the trees are out to get you.”
Navin: “If you leave the road, there are any number of bandit groups hiding out in the forest. I’ve heard of people getting lost in hidden caves, too. Who knows what sorts of things hide in them?”
Did anything happen on your last trip through?
Navin: “We were both sure we were being followed. We caught glimpses of things moving in the trees, but nothing came after us. I don’t think we even stopped once; we were so eager to get here to Wag.”
Other townspeople tell similar stories, if the characters ask around. Recent travelers felt like they were being watched a few miles outside of Wag. They can’t seem to agree on whether it’s bandits or monsters doing the stalking.
A Mysterious Observer
At some point, the characters start feeling like they’re being watched. Anyone who succeeds on a Cunning (Notice) check, difficulty 10, spots a person who’s been lurking nearby pretty much everywhere they’ve been since they entered the town. If they’ve only been in the Wayfarer Inn so far, they catch a glimpse of someone ducking down outside the window.
The person following them is a fawn-colored chihuahua in ragged clothing. As soon as she realizes she’s been spotted, she runs away. She ducks into clusters of people or dodges between buildings, doing everything she can to put distance between herself and the pioneers if they chase her.
Some common ways players might make to catch her include:
Give chase: Make an Agility (Traverse) check, difficulty 12. A character who succeeds can catch up to the runner or head her off at a pass.
Use your voice: Make a Might (Intimidate) check, difficulty 10, to shout orders for her to stop, or for someone in the crowd to grab her.
Cast a spell: Use a spell like Bless/Bane or Magic Paw to slow her down or stop her. A character with Guiding Bolt or Seeking Stingers might also target objects in her path to create obstacles.
Enlist help: Make a Presence (Persuade) check, difficulty 10, to get nearby caravan guards or the town’s defenders to help catch her.
REAWARDS STILL PENDING

CURRENTLY FUNDING
In 2017 Onyx Path unveiled the Storypath System, the rules engine that has come to power many of our games: the sci-fi universe of hope, heroism, and peril known as the Trinity Continuum, the modern-day stories of old gods and titans called Scion Second Edition, and the trope-focused exploration of genres that is the They Came From! series, and more.
We're extremely proud of what we’ve done over the years with Storypath, but felt it was time to tighten up the rules, smooth off the rough edges, and get rid of anything that got in the way of telling amazing stories. As a result, we’ve created the Storypath Ultra Core Manual.
Storypath Ultra isn’t a new edition, nor is it a replacement rule set — many of the concepts we developed and refined from the Storypath System are still there, even as they rearrange or rename things to make them as clear as possible. Think of it as a new take on Storypath: It’s the same great game but spruced up and tweaked to be the best possible version.
Curseborne is a game about being unapologetic monsters in a world where being monstrous is the least of your worries. In Curseborne, you play as Accursed, descendants of monstrous lineages lurking in a modern world that closely resembles our own. August 2024 Update
5 months ago
– Thu, Aug 22, 2024 at 07:53:18 AM
Hello Good Doggos,
It's the second last Thursday of the month and time for our regular monthly update. It's only been three weeks since our last update, though - we managed to sneak out the Backer PDF for Realms of Pugmire in the final day of July. If you haven't already downloaded it from DTRPG, you can check out our last update for more information on that process.
In our July monthly summary, I listed our two adventures as being in post-approval development, but I think I may have jumped ahead on those. Or at least my records show we're not quite there for those two projects, but I'll double check by September's update to confirm for sure where we are.
That said, the Onyx Path team is pretty far along on the jumpstart... and I've got a quick preview from the jumpstart featuring Pugmire's very own Yosha Pug!
Realms of Pugmire Jumpstart Preview 1
Here’s Yosha Pug updated for the new edition in the Realms of Pugmire Jumpstart!
Princess Yosha Pug
History: Yosha is the daughter of King Puckington Pug. She’s grown up in Pugmire’s court, learning what it means to rule in case she sits on the throne someday. She’s polite and curious — it bothers her when people think that also means naïve, which is something she’s had to try training her friends out of. She understands why, though — she’s been adventuring with them since she was young, and sometimes it’s hard for people who see you a lot to realize you’ve grown up or changed. She’s a voracious reader, and most of the time her rucksack is heavy due to all the books she carries with her. Yosha has been studying magic since she was a pup, when a visiting merchant gave her a strange silver ball that let her lift her furniture up into the air. She wants to use her skills to help people, whether that’s by protecting them with magic or helping make the City of Good Dogs safe for everyone.
Roleplay Tips: Yosha puts her heart into everything she does, even if that means sometimes it gets broken. She’s learned to temper her curiosity just a tiny bit, though that means she tries to think about the ways danger might be lurking before rushing into anything — it certainly doesn’t scare her off once she’s figured out what those dangers might be! Her optimism helps keep her friends’ spirits up, and she cares deeply for them all.
Description: Yosha is a fawn-colored pug. Her clothing is well-tailored and expensive, and she prefers pants and robes to dresses. It’s much easier to explore in comfortable clothes. She carries a rucksack that’s overflowing with books.
Rucksack: A signet ring and a set of fine clothes, one dagger (1d4, stabbing, finesse, light, thrown 20/60), one set of light padded armor, one masterwork artisan focus (her silver ball), a bottle of ink, an ink pen, a few sheets of parchment, and a small collection of books
Plastic Track: Many coins
Personality:
Drive: I am a good dog because I learn about magic to keep my friends, family, and kingdom safe.
Inspiration: I am inspired by my bond to the kingdom of Pugmire, my family’s home.
Weakness: No matter what, I just can’t stop being curious and trusting.
REWARDS STILL PENDING
I've adjusted the two adventures according to what I found in the Onyx Path tracking, so moving forward but I may have misinterpreted my notes last month. I'll keep an eye on everything for our next update, along with another Jumpstart preview.
If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://realms-of-pugmire.backerkit.com
You can read Onyx Path's most recent monthly summary, covering all projects and their status up to that point here: <July 2024 Project Status Summary>
You can find the weekly Monday Meeting blog updates <here>, which note any projects with status changes since the previous Month End summary. The project statuses listed are current as of last Monday, so do check it out each Monday night to see if anything may have progressed!
I will continue to post regular updates every month until the final reward has gone out.
